Who doesn’t love a radiant completion?
I love skincare. I have been using this wonderful Vitamin C serum for the past three months and decided to finally review of Maelove The Glow Maker serum. For skincare to review an item properly you should use it for at least three months. Unless you can tell right away if it dries out your skin or gives you some negative reaction on your skin.
What is The Glow Maker serum?
According to the website, The Glow Maker is a serum that gives you hydrated and brightened skin all day long. The serum has Vitamins C, E, Ferulic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid. They sell it on their website for $28 for a 1oz bottle. The Glow Maker is primarily a Vitamin C serum. For skincare having a good quality Vitamin C serum in my skincare routine is very important. Maelove is a skincare line developed by MIT scientists.
Why use a Vitamin C serum?
Vitamin C in your skincare routine aids in a variety of things that are great for your face in the long run.
Ingredients in Maelove’s The Glow Maker
I love all the healthy ingredients inside The Glow Maker. It’s primarily a Vitamin C serum. For skincare having a good quality Vitamin C serum in my skincare routine is a must. This serum doesn’t contain any alcohol which is great. Alcohol in skincare tends to dry out the skin.
The Glow Maker contains the following ingredients:
- Vitamins C (15% L-ascorbic acid), E
- Ferulic Acid for superb antioxidant protection
- Hyaluronic Acid for long-lasting hydration.
- a proprietary botanical blend (Vitis Vinifera, Aloe, Aurantium Dulcis, and Magnolia) for extra nourishment and easy makeup application.
What does each ingredient do for your skin?
I already talked about the benefits of Vitamin C. As for Vitamin E it moisturizes skin, prevents wrinkles, and lightens dark spots. Below are the benefits of Ferulic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid. Ferulic Acid is a plant-based antioxidant for anti-aging. While Hyaluronic acid is a protein naturally found in our skin that can attract and hold water in the skin. Hyaluronic acid holds a thousand times its weight in water to retain all that moisture in our skin.
How do you use The Glow Maker serum?
I typically put a few drops of it on my face/neck in the morning after I wash my face. Then, I follow with my sunscreen and apply makeup. Alternatively, it is good to use this serum before you go to bed at night.
Shelf Life Of A Typical Vitamin C Serum
For a serum an important thing to consider is that L-ascorbic acid Vitamin C breaks down going from a clear color to a dark yellow when it oxidizes. And, when it oxidizes the Vitamin C is not as effective as when it was at it’s clear color. The shelf life of Vitamin C serum is around 3 months after you opened the bottle. And, after using not even half of The Glow maker in three months it oxidized and turned a pale/golden yellow color. Vitamin C needs to be stored in a cool, and dry place. The fridge is a wonderful place to keep your Vitamin C products to prolong their shelf life.
I emailed customer service at Maelove who explained to me that, “It’s normal for every high-concentration vitamin C serum to change color. That happens when Vitamin C takes on oxidative damage (which makes a potent anti-oxidant), which is how it protects your skin (better Vitamin C absorbs oxidation than your skin). So then, what is “normal”? In terms of the normal color range I think maybe the best way to describe is clear to white wine. And changed color does not mean it’s in any way unsafe or dangerous to use, just like browning of banana or apple doesn’t mean it’s contaminated. Much of the nutrition is still there just not looking as appetizing. The serum is fine in the in the range of white wine color (initially the color can be close to clear to champagne-tinged like number 1 below depending on batches of natural extracts used), but if the shade starts looking like number 5 here then I’d say it’s time to swap out the bottle”. So, currently after 3 months my serum looks like shade 3 in the white wine chart.
What do I think of The Glow Maker serum?
I love it and consider it a daily vitamin I apply directly to my skin. The serum sinks into my skin and absorbs fast. It feels hydrating and doesn’t dry out my skin. It has a light watery consistency. I never had any negative reaction from using this product for the past 3 months. I think it does a great job at healing any blemish I have, and it works great under my makeup. It is an antioxidant that both treats and protects my skin, so I am very happy with the serum. So, I do think this is a great product.
I think if I got another bottle I would pour half of the serum in another dropper, and give it to a friend. Because, I would never finish a whole bottle before it goes bad. It would take me 8 months to finish the whole bottle. It is not Maelove’s fault, but rather what happens to Vitamin C products in general. An 1 oz bottle is the standard size for a Vitamin C serum. I hope some day Maelove and other companies that make Vitamin C serums make them in .5 oz bottles instead.
