When it comes to skincare the moment I see a product including Hylauronic Acid and Vitamin C I get excited. Orgaid just launched its newest product their Youth Serum with Hyaluronic and Vitamin C. Now, I have been a fan of Orgaid since I first tried one of their face masks last year, and reviewed them previously on my site.
Brief History of Orgaid
The founder of Orgaid is Dr. Ian Baek. He wanted to create a skincare brand that delivered the benefit of organic ingredients to the body. Currently, Orgaid’s headquarters are in California.
I love following clean beauty. Over the past two years for my skincare, I have been concentrating on investing in products with quality clean beauty ingredients. According to their website they ” create high-end performance natural skincare products from scientifically-proven methods.”
What is Orgaid Youth Serum suppose to do for your skin?
Well according to their website it claims that “This serum is packed with a powerful punch of hydration and regeneration, working together to reduce the signs of aging. Alleviate your dry skin and say goodbye to fine lines and wrinkles with the magic of this serum.”
This product is meant for all skin types.
Ingredients in Orgaid Youth Serum
Before we talk about the main two star ingredients take a look at the simple ingredient list below. Nothing on it to me looks like a questionable ingredient. From the looks of it, it looks to have a beautiful formulation made up of quality ingredients to feed your skin. Also, I love the fact it includes Niacinamide( Vitamin B3) high on the list of ingredients which usually means there is a high concentration of it in the serum. Now, niacinamide has a long list of benefits from preventive to healing for the skin. I plan to write another blog post on niacinamide.
Now, we can talk about the two main ingredients in the serum with the first being Hylauronic Acid. You can refer to my amazing graph below on the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid.
By now if you love following skincare you might have heard the benefits of using skincare products with Vitamin C. Below, you can see some of the benefits of Vitamin C has for your skin. There are many formulations of vitamin c. Orgaid Youth Serum uses Ascorbyl Glucoside as their form of vitamin c which is a more stable form of vitamin c. It is safe for the skin and will not oxidize( change color and efficiently) as easily as products with other forms of Vitamin C.
For example, L-ascorbic acid is another popular form of vitamin c, but it oxides too fast and breaks down over time. I have never finished a bottle of a serum containing L-ascorbic acid before it went “bad”. I don’t think there is any “better” form of Vitamin C, and I alternate between different formulations of Vitamin C’s I use during the year.
Texture/Smell/Packaging:
How to Use: Apply 1-3 pumps and gently massage into the skin.
Cost: $62 for 1.2oz bottle
Texture: Gel consistency
Smell/Packaging: So, I am not the best at describing how something smells. But, I would say this has a very natural earthy smell. It doesn’t smell like a fake fragrance. And, after a few minutes, the smell goes away anyhow. I liked how the serum was in a dark-colored container to preserve the product, and the jar felt sturdy. I like that it has a pump.
My experience with Orgaid Youth Serum
Now, my review is only having used this for one week. For me, I wanted to see how well it helped keep my skin hydrated and how it helped in repairing the skin barrier. I tend to use different chemical exfoliants( AHA’s and BHA’s for example) that tend to dry out my skin in general. And, in the winter like most people, my face is really dry.
Currently, due to my age, of course, I don’t have any real signs of aging yet. So, for me, I look at this product more as a preventive measure in terms of wrinkles.
Using it without makeup: It says you can use it day and night. But, I preferred to use it only in the morning. I found that it absorbed into my skin fast, and after around 5 minutes I could continue to add other skincare ingredients without it pilling up.
Using it with makeup: On an everyday basis I’ve always do the “no-makeup makeup look”. I tend to wear mostly tinted moisturizers and lighter foundations that are dewy and hydrating. Throughout my life so far I haven’t had major skin issues yet, so I never felt the need to cover up my face with full coverage foundations. So, here is my morning routine when I used this serum with makeup:
- rinsed my face with cold water ( I don’t use face wash in the morning because I cleanse it well enough at night)
- applied Orgaid Youth Serum then let it soak in for 5 minutes
- applied my favorite SPF that’s hydrating
- then, after 20 mins I apply a light layer of a hydrating primer that is water-based
- then, I applied my favorite tinted moisturizer
- I finish with a light layer of cream/powder blush and highlighter
So, the Orgaid Youth Serum worked well under the light makeup that I wore. It all depends on the products you use, because some products don’t work well with others.
Overall Thoughts on Orgaid Youth Serum
After a week I didn’t have any negative reactions ( no blackheads/whiteheads/blemishes). It worked well when I used makeup and without makeup and only SPF. Since it was only a week I couldn’t see yet the other benefits it is supposed to provide as a Vitamin C. For me, I found it did a great job at moisturizing my face. And, in time I think with using it for probably 3 months I can better judge how well it works for most of it’s other benefits. But, for now, I see it as a vitamin i take daily for my face.
What else I would love to see from Orgaid in the future: Currently, they have a small line up of products which is, of course, normal for new companies. But, in the future, I would love for them to create a clean beauty eye cream/face cream with a clean version of retinol. Retinol( vitamin a/tretinoin) is the gold standard for a dermatologist when it comes to anti-aging and good skin. But, I wonder about the safety of using it for 50+ years. Orgaid is probably focused on creating skincare products now, but I would love to see them expand one day to clean beauty makeup as well. I love using tinted moisturizers, but I have yet to find a clean beauty one that is truly moisturizing and giving you that dewy glow that is so popular. Most clean beauty tinted moisturizers I have tested have been thick, not very hydrating, or weren’t dewy as promised.
Would I recommend it?
Yes. Currently, I can’t tell visibly if Vitamin C in the serum is helping my skin. If I have a light pink blemish mark healing I can usually tell if a Vitamin C serum helps fades it faster. But, now I don’t have any kind of those leftover blemish spots. And, I can’t speak on how well it helped with signs of aging due to the fact I don’t have any super visible signs yet. So, I see it as a preventative measure. I will continue to test it out for 3 months and update my thoughts.
Based off how well it does at hydrating my face for a week, and at no negative effects I have had from it I would recommend it.
