How I got started with BareMinerals
For my first blog post on makeup I decided to do a best of bareMinerals products review.BareMinerals is the first company I bought a foundation from when I was a teen. Luckily, I didn’t have any acne to cover up, but like some teens, I loved playing with makeup. I remember my mom bought me one of those BareMinerals kits that came with the following; prime time primer, original foundation, mineral veil, and the warmth bronzer. I had no idea what to do with their bronzer back then, and even now, I still am not a fan of bronzer.
The funny thing is BareMinerals hooked on the whole no-makeup makeup look at an early age. Even now I am not a fan of heavy makeup and only do a glammed up makeup when its a special event.
Their core products will always be my favorite. And, even though I have tried so many foundations throughout the years I will always purchase my favorite bareMinerals Original Foundation powder. BareMinerals will always have a special memory for me because I remember being so excited when my mom gifted me the BareMinerals makeup kit. I didn’t have many skin issues as a teen, and when I got older, I kept my skincare/makeup routine simple. One of my favorite products they discontinued was called Skin rev-er upper that was a lotion type of product that contained 1% BHA (salicylic acid), and I realized later on that the product was another reason I hardly got blemishes. I used it every day, and back then, I thought it was a primer. So, BareMinerals, please bring back your skin rev-er upper.
I had many friends, of course, in their teen years who had acne and covered up their faces with drugstore products that were full of toxic ingredients. But, I think the reason why my skin didn’t have problems was due to the fact was that I was using mineral makeup.
Brief History of BareMinerals
BareMinerals was started back in 1995 by Leslie Blodgett. Leslie wanted to make makeup that would not cause skin irritation or breakouts. Then, when they started selling on QVC, their brand took off. Today as back then BareMinerals keeps their makeup-free from the following: parabens, formaldehydes, chemical sunscreen, triciosan, phthalate, triclocarban, propylene glycol, mineral oil, coal tar, and microbeads. Also, their products are cruelty-free.
Best bareMinerals Products Review
1. Bareminerals Original Loose Powder Foundation SPF 15
According to their website, bareMinerals claims the following on the product: “It is full of clean mineral pigments and non-chemical mineral sunscreen. ” And, “Our bestselling powder foundation perfects your complexion with lightweight, buildable coverage that’s naturally luminous. The clean and simple formula is made with only five mineral ingredients, including non-chemical mineral sunscreen.
Loose Powder Foundation is full of:
Clean Mineral Pigments
Iron Oxides
Non-Chemical Mineral Sunscreen
Titanium Dioxide & Zinc Oxide
Silky, Luminous Finish
Mica (luminizing)
Bismuth Oxychloride (soft-skin feel)
My Experience: The first-ever foundation product I ever used was not a liquid, but their famous Original Loose Powder Foundation. I fell in love with how it made my skin look healthy, and gave me the whole “my skin but better” look. It makes the skin look slightly luminous and makes you look like you have super smooth skin. I don’t pack this product on my face, but you can build it up depending on how much you need to cover.
When I was younger, I had normal skin. And, now I have dry skin due to tretinoin/lactic acid weekly use. But, BareMinerals Original Loose Powder Foundation still works wonderfully on my skin as the first time. I feel like I have nothing on my face. It doesn’t make your face look cakey at all. It’s magical. This powder is the only foundation powder I will ever care to use. Nowadays besides this powder foundation, I love tinted moisturizers that give a super dewy look. So, I never needed to search for another powder foundation when Bareminerals has the best one. This powder foundation melts into your skin and doesn’t look like you have a powder foundation on at all.
2. Bareminerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder SPF 25
Product claims from their website: “Complete your makeup look and protect your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays with our light-as-a-feather Mineral Veil Finishing Powder SPF 25. The super smooth formula blends onto skin without smudging the makeup you’re already wearing. Sheer and never cakey, Mineral Veil SPF 25 is a translucent setting powder made with natural ingredients that weightlessly blurs and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and pores, whether it is applied over makeup or onto beautifully bare skin.”
My Experience: Now, when I started using this I had no idea as a teen really what a setting powder was supposed to do. I just knew it went along with the powder foundation. Years later, I know what setting powder is supposed to do, and I love it. It blends everything on my face and has a natural finish to it. And, I feel that my makeup last longer while I have it on. They now have mineral veil without SPF that come with very radiant finishes. But, I have not tried those yet.
3. Bareminerals Loose Powder Concealer SPF 20
Product claims: “An utterly weightless loose powder concealer that protects your skin with SPF while effortlessly concealing imperfections, redness and blemishes. “
My Experience: For most of the time, when I started using BM Original Powder Foundation, I would automatically put it under my eyes and use it as a concealer. I didn’t start using concealer until later. Nowadays, I love super hydrating concealers. So, I was not sure I would care for a powder concealer, because I thought logically it would make my under eyes look super dried out. Right? I was wrong! It doesn’t make my under-eyes look dry at all, and provides the perfect coverage I need. I wear SPF every day, but very rarely I find a concealer with SPF that works for me. So, I love that it has SPF in it. Again, I don’t think I would ever bother with any other powder concealer when this one is my favorite.
4. Bareminerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Concealer Coverage Serum.
Product claims: “Conceal under eye dark circles and other imperfections with this silky smooth full coverage concealer and anti-aging serum in one.”
My experience: I have dry under eyes, and finding a hydrating concealer is hard sometimes. But, I enjoy using this one. I don’t think it is a full-coverage concealer, but I like that. Because I don’t like full-coverage concealers. This concealer is creamy and brightens my under eyes. It applies beautifully and is not thick at all. And, it looks natural on my skin.
5. Bareminerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer -Hydrating Gel Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30
Product Claims: “Our tinted moisturizer with SPF combines hydrating skincare benefits with radiant, sheer-to-medium coverage. Boost hydration by 215%, protect with non-chemical mineral-based sunscreen, and even out skin tone with a dewy, healthy-looking glow. The clean formula is your go-to for natural-looking coverage and everyday protection.”
My experience: I love tinted moisturizers because I don’t like heavy foundations. Plus, I never needed to cover any heavy acne on my face. This tinted moisturizer provides for me a sheer coverage and leaves the skin with a beautiful dewy finish. I enjoy this tinted moisturizer and usually apply it with a beauty sponge. When my face is super dry from overusing my tretinoin/lactic acid, I found that this didn’t work well on skin as it clung in places to dry patches. It’s not my all time favorite tinted moisturizer, but it is a good one.
6. Bareminerals Dew Mist Setting Spray
Product Claims: “Dew Mist Setting Spray from bareMinerals is a glow-giving setting spray that locks makeup in place, hydrates skin, and refreshes the look of your complexion anytime. Set makeup for extended wear while giving a fresh, natural looking glow. The clean formula provides instant hydration for dewy, healthy-looking skin”
My experience: I adore the look of a fresh and dewy face. So, I am always on the hunt for a good face mist that leaves a dewy finish. I received a mini sample of the dew spray in an order and loved it. Now, since I don’t have the huge bottle right now, I can’t judge that mist. But, the small mist I have has a fine mist that sprays out beautifully. And, like most of BareMinerals products, I love the ingredients in this mist. The mist gives my complexion a pretty glow, and I feel like it helps with the staying power or both BareMinerals powder foundations, and my other tinted moisturizers. And, it does feel hydrating.
7. Bareminerals Complexion Rescue Hydrating Foundation Stick SPF 25
Product Claims: “A clean, water-based liquid foundation in a stick that combines hydrating skincare benefits and SPF with naturally radiant medium coverage. “
My experience: Never in my life have I loved a stick foundation before I tried this one. I like the idea of a stick foundation. But I always thought stick foundations wouldn’t be as light and dewy as a liquid. But, the magic with their new foundation stick is that it is a water based foundation stick. BareMinerals claims it’s the first water-based foundation stick on the market.
I recently got a mini of this stick in my Sephora order. It glides on like water and leaves a super dewy finish. Before I applied it, I applied my favorite go-to SPF, and then I applied my favorite primer. After those two products sunk in, I went ahead and applied this with a beauty sponge. And, in the end, I loved this foundation stick due to its dewy hydrating finish, and that it feels lightweight. It didn’t cling to any dry patches. It evens out the skin and I think provides sheer to medium coverage. Overall, I loved it and can’t wait to try a full-size one.
