So, Neutrogena is one of those trusted brands that have been around forever. I remember when I was a preteen, I would like to play around with some of the makeup I bought at the drugstore when I had no real idea of what I was doing.
My face while on retinol and different AHA’s/BHA’s I use weekly has been on the drier side. So, for makeup whenever a makeup product has the word “hydrating” in its name it has me hooked.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint and Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Hydrating Foundation Stick have been out for a while now. So, I was excited to try them with all their positive reviews I’ve read online.
What Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint does?
So, according to Neutrogena’s website they claim it “applies flawlessly while instantly quenching skin with hyaluronic acid, leaving skin so hydrated it looks smooth and fresh all day. Plus, it moisturizes and plumps skin for 24 hours for coverage your skin will love.”
Hyaluronic Acid is the “it” ingredient in products, and who doesn’t love super hydrated skin. I do!
My Experience with Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint
Color I used: Natural Ivory 20
I love the packaging it is it with a doe-foot applicator, but it does make it a bit hard to get all the product out of the bottle too. I always prefer squeeze bottles.
Foundations can look different depending on different ways you prep your skin in advance. I tested this foundation by using different application methods.
Also, I normally put on my foundations/tinted moisturizers with a sponge as oppose to a brush.
Different Application Methods for Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint
- SPF> Hydrating Primer>Tint
I use a moisturizing mineral SPF( let it soak in 20 minutes), then follow up with a hydrating primer. And, finally, I apply the tint. I have to say it looked beautiful. Now, I love a super dewy finish. And, this method just gave me a natural finish which was still good. I didn’t have any dry spots and it worked well in the scorching heat and the cold winter. Because of the SPF/Primer my face looked extra hydrated though. - Only the Tint
The reason why I was most impressed with the Neutrogena Tint is that by itself it looked so natural. And, after wearing it for 8 hours I did not see any dry spots or breakups anywhere on my face( which happens often if I don’t wear anything moisturizing underneath). But, this is not my preferred method as it left me with a semi-matte finish and was very skin-like. - Face Oil>Hydrating Primer>Tint
Typically, at night I use face oils in place of an SPF to add extra moisturize when I go out. I got the same results this way as I got when I used SPF; the same natural finish that was not at all dewy.
Is it worth it?
Yes, for a drugstore foundation/ tint it performed pretty well for a skin tint. It evens out skin tone, and it is not full coverage( which I like). It leaves a natural finish and melts into my skin nicely. I would repurchase this and if I was ever really in need of a skin tint while on vacation I would pick this up at a drugstore.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Foundation Stick Review
So, according to Neutrogena’s website they say the stick is “Formulated with hyaluronic acid, this moisturizing foundation stick can be used to cover, conceal and contour for a dewy, fresh-faced glow. Perfect for normal to dry skin types, each easy-to-use foundation stick contains our creamy, buildable formula that glides on smoothly and blends effortlessly.”
My Experience with Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Foundation Stick
Color I used: Natural Ivory 20
The foundation goes on super creamy and just glides on the face with ease.
So, to be fair in general I never found a stick I loved 100%. Even before I started using retinol/AHA’s/BHA’s I’ve always preferred light and creamy formulas not on a stick. But, I figured I should try this one as well.
- SPF/Hydrating Primer/Foundation: So, with this method, it did not look dry on my face. My face had a little sheen to it, but I wouldn’t say it was dewy at all.
- Only the Foundation
When I applied only the foundation stick, my face was super matte, and throughout the day it got only a little shiny. - Face Oil/Hydrating Primer/Foundation
With this method, my face did not look dewy at all and was mostly on the matte side. I did not like this combination.
Is it worth it?
Well, for me I was more of a fan of the skin tint than the foundation stick. The foundation stick left no patchiness and didn’t breakdown. And, it felt light on my skin. I would think possibly this would work well on people with a more “normal” skin type. I did read reviews from many people that it was actually “too” dewy! I wish it was super dewy on my skin. But, for what it was I thought it was a good product. But, I wouldn’t buy it again.
