I am a big lover of any skincare line that claims to be clean. So, for my newest brand review I decided to focus on the “it” brand Youth To The People. I don’t buy all “clean” skincare items. But, I try to keep half of my skincare routine as clean as possible. I found Youth to the People last year when they entered Sephora. I loved the sleek and simple packaging of their products, and the main ingredients they use in their product lines.
History of Youth To The People Skincare
Youth to the People is a Californian based business founded by cousins Greg Gonzalez and Joe Cloyes. They wanted to create skincare products fused with both superfoods and science. For many of their products, they use the process of cold pressing of their superfoods; which preserves the protein, antioxidants, and minerals of the superfood they want to use as a skincare ingredient.
If you are from California, you know how obsessed people are with their cold-pressed juices, so I think it was innovative to include that technique in their skincare line. Youth to the People is a 100 percent vegan skin-care line.
Youth to the People Product Reviews
So, currently, I have bought/received as deluxe samples 5 of their 9 products. But, I am looking forward to trying their new Adaptogen Soothe + Hydrate Activated Mist. I love facial mists, especially ones that claim to hydrate. A common thread among all their products is that I adore all of them.
They don’t have an extensive line of products yet, but from what I tried, I haven’t found a product that I didn’t love or reacted negatively to my skin. And, for reference, I have normal-dry acne prone skin( I never had heavy acne, but do get the monthly blemish). And, I use tretinoin currently. Tretinoin is known to be drying to the face.
It is important to point out all their products on this list provide anti-aging benefits and protect against environmental stressors that harm our skin.
1. Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser ( Kale + Green Tea, Spinach Vitamins)
What is it: A gentle daily face wash made with cold-pressed antioxidants-kale, spinach, and green tea. It works to prevent buildup in pores, removes makeup, and balances PH without drying or stripping the skin.
How to use: Wet your face first and rub into a lather on your face. On their website, they say to massage into your face for 30 seconds to activate the cold pressed antioxidants.
Texture/Smell: It is a gel cleanser, and it has a fresh/clean herb scent.
Key Ingredients/Benefits: Kale provides phytonutrients for your skin and Vitamins C, E, and K. Spinach is a skin-soother and is a natural moisturizer. And, green tea is an anti-inflammatory oil packed with essential fatty acids. It has Vitamin C( ascorbic acid) which helps fade dark spots and brighten the skin.
My experience: I adored this cleanser. It is a gentle gel cleanser that has a light spinach scent. The fragrance in it is natural from the extracts from the veggies they use in their formula. It is non-drying and doesn’t strip my skin. But, it leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean. And, silky smooth. I think it would be great for people with sensitive skin. I don’t usually wear a full face of heavy makeup, so for me, it does a great job at taking off my makeup. Anyway, when I use heavier makeup( full-coverage foundation and have a glammed up look), I use a cleansing balm. Overall, I love this stuff and would buy a large bottle of it.
2. Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Oil( Maqui+Acai, Prickly Pear, and Goji)
• What is it: A flash absorbing face oil that uses the nutrients of rare superberries. It provides both hydration and is a potent antioxidant elixir that protects/heal your skin against environmental damage
• Key Ingredients/Benefits: They claim that Macqui is the most antioxidant dense fruit in the world and helps combat free radicals. Acai is rich in omega 3,6, and 9 fatty acids that help revive dull/dry skin. Then, prickly pear is very hydrating and helps reduce redness. While, goji is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamins c and e. They also claim goji helps soften the appearance of fine lines and combat free radicals.
• How to use: Put 2-5 drops on your hands to warm it up and then press it onto your face. You can use it underneath your makeup or the first step in your skincare routine.
• My experience: So, the oil is the first product I ever bought for them and the first full-sized product. It is a lightweight oil that sinks in fast to the skin, and smells delicious( it has a fruity smell). It is gentle and has no added fragrance. I love using it on my skin morning and night. It does a fantastic job at keeping my face hydrated and makes my face have a beautiful glow.
Also, I love to use it under my tinted moisturizer if I want a very dewy look for the day. Besides being moisturizing, I don’t notice any other difference to my skin while using up the whole bottle. But, since it is an antioxidant, I like the fact it’s protecting and healing my skin from environmental damage. ( There is no real way to test this though, right? But, that’s what antioxidants in skincare are supposed to do, so I’ll believe it’s doing just that for my skin.)
3. Youth to the People Superberry Hydrate + Glow Mask
What is it: An overnight mask that deeply hydrates, plumps, and brightens with powerful, antioxidant-rich super berries and THD ascorbate (vitamin C). THD ascorbate is said to penetrate deeper into the skin than other forms.
Key Ingredients/Benefits:
- Maqui: The most antioxidant-dense fruit in the world to defend the skin against the look of oxidative stress.
- Vitamin C (THD Ascorbate): Super-potent and non-irritating, it visibly firms and brightens the look and feel of skin.
- Squalane: Mimics your skin’s natural oils to boost skin hydration without the risk of clogged pores.
- Prickly Pear: very hydrating and helps erase signs of redness.
- Squaline/Hyaluronic Acid/Glycerin/Betaine- helps to plump and seal in moisture to repair dehydrated skin.
Texture/Scent: Creamy and rich, and has a fruity smell.
How to use: Apply an even thick layer to skin after cleansing at night.
My experience: I have tried many moisturizing night masks over the years, but this one I think is perhaps my favorite. It is made up of most of the same ingredients as the oil. But, it does a fantastic job of moisturizing my skin at night while I sleep. I tested it out at first a few times when my face was noticeably dry due to using my tretinoin too many times one week. And, when I woke up, my face was silky smooth and noticeably hydrated. It is a mask, but I would use this nightly as a moisturizer.
4. Youth to the People Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream( Kale+ Spinach, Green Tea, Hyaluronic Acid)
What is it: A multifunction, lightweight face cream loaded with superfoods—kale, spinach, and green tea—and hyaluronic acid to moisturize skin.
Key Ingredients/Benefits: Kale is rich in phytonutrients and vitamins C, E, and K. Green Tea is packed with nourishing antioxidants. And, hyaluronic acid an amazing hydrator known for its moisture retaining properties.
How to use: You can use it morning or night. And, you can use it under makeup.
My experience: This moisturizer has a nice gel-crème texture. It is a light moisturizer that I like using, mostly in the morning under my makeup, and it is fast absorbing. I found that it hydrated my face nicely, but if your face is super dry, I would advise others to use the superberry mask or the adapotogen mask which are thicker.
5. Youth to the People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream( Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi)
What is it: A deeply hydrating, calming moisture cream powered by adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms: ashwagandha, rhodiola, reishi, and holy basil. Adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms soothe the skin when faced with daily stressors like UV rays and environmental pollutants.
Key Ingredients/Benefits:
• Ashwagandha: An adaptogenic herb with an abundance of antioxidants, iron, and amino acids.
• Reishi: An adaptogenic mushroom that helps establish homeostasis in the body.
• Rhodiola: An adaptogenic herb that boosts skin strength, fights fatigue, and works to increase resistance to stress.
• Pentapeptide: A peptide complex that calms the stress reaction in sensitive and irritated skin.
My experience: This is a nice thicker cream, and it sinks into my skin beautifully. I loved using this in the winter months since it was a heavier cream that leaves no oily residue. And, found it to be very soothing on my skin. It would work great for anyone who has dehydrated skin. I used this cream mostly at night since it was on the richer side.
Final Thoughts
Again, I adore the brand. I am a fan of the ingredients they use, and how well they perform on my skin. It took me around 4 months to finish a full size of their superberry oil which I loved. And, only used their other mini skincare products for 1 month, and had great results. My skin didn’t breakout from their products, or have any kind of bad reactions. Most importantly is that my face felt healthy while using their products.
